See some of the great things people are saying about the First Friday Club experience.

About
The First Friday Club Editors’ Briefings were started in 1996 by a group of journalists who wanted to save time and travel going around the country for press briefings.
They realised that companies with new products or announcements would also benefit from a cost effective way of announcing to the market via the trade and technical press and from a guaranteed audience of leading UK journalists in a central location.
Soon after inception, the editors asked leading technical PR agency Fisher Marketing to help administer the events which have gone from strength to strength ever since.
The format is remarkably simple and proven to be highly effective. Up to twenty editors from the UK’s leading industrial trade and technical media come together on the first Friday of the month at a central London location for a morning of networking and presentations, and then enjoy a convivial lunch in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Many leading companies are regular presenters at First Friday Club Editors’ briefings, from the global giants of automation, such as Rockwell Automation or ABB, through many sensing and equipment manufacturers such as Sick or Moog, to exciting new start-ups like Automata.
In recent years, under the stewardship of Cadence Innovation Marketing, which bought Fisher Marketing in 2010, the club, “FFC” to those who know it best, has gone from strength to strength, adding regular presentations from leading associations and organisations such as EEF and the IMechE to its roster of returning presenters.
Now in its 20th year, the First Friday Club Editors’ Briefings remain the most cost effective way to launch products and initiatives to the UK industrial trade and technical press. For a fraction of the cost of a standalone event, FFC provides the platform for delivering your messages to the UK market and offers your company’s spokespersons unparalleled access and networking opportunities with the journalists who set the tone and agenda for the UK industrial trade and technical media.

“The First Friday Editor Briefings are the best opportunity to communicate and influence the manufacturing, engineering and industrial sector. The events are meticulously organised to ensure editors receive the most relevant and newsworthy information, guaranteeing that their attendance is worthwhile time and again. The team are a pleasure to work with and I am sure we will be participating again for a third time.”

“Throughout the year, the First Friday Club events always feature highly relevant companies talking about a range of interesting and topical subjects. Attending editors benefit not only from gaining knowledge about important new products and services in the industrial sector, but they also have the opportunity to network with representatives from presenting companies and form working relationships that continue long after the event. A stand-out feature is the high calibre of the guest speakers, who are drawn from industry bodies and associations, educational organisations and the like, and always provide the basis for some great copy. A variety of venues and the occasional ‘takeover’, when presentations come from a single company, keep the format fresh. The team at Cadence is also excellent at supplying follow-up material and further information as needed.”

“The First Friday Club is an institution for industrial trade press journalists. I’ve attended for over 15 years and it has been the one place in an ever-changing publishing world I can justifiably say editors want to attend because of the variety of new technologies, news and information gained at each and every event. The relaxed environment culminating in an enjoyable lunch has also helped me to cement many business relationships and create new opportunities to network, benefiting my publications enormously over the years. Although the FFC is legally owned by Cadence its guardians are the editors of each generation who see it as their own event and this for me is why it is so valuable to the industry.”
“I find the First Friday Club an invaluable source of news and networking opportunities. The companies selected to present always have interesting information to impart, whether it be the launch of a new product or addressing market issues. Guest speakers – such as those from BARA, MAKE UK and The Energy Institute – are a particularly notable element of the First Friday Club and add a further dimension in terms of background knowledge and current thinking.”

‘The First Friday Club has been a very useful and worthwhile regular event for us for many years now and continues to be with always attracting some of the leading companies and biggest names in our industry. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet many of those key people working for the leading companies and chat to them in-depth about their new products and developments and what they think the future trends for the market are going to be. The presentations by these companies are often carried out by one of their sales engineers so tend to be very knowledgeable, informative and straightforward presentations which we find extremely useful when you’re reporting in a “non-nonsense” way. We will certainly continue to use the FFC as a core means of gaining first hand information on the latest new products.”

“First Friday Editors’ Briefings collect together a number of presentations that saves me time while retaining the value of face-to-face meetings, which always yield more interesting and divergent conversations! Also, with the variety of presenting companies there are invariably opportunities for learning something completely new, resulting in broader editorial coverage for our readers. I also enjoy meeting with the FFC team and my peers in the technical press – it’s often the best way of finding out what’s going on in our industry!”
Tim Fryer, Technology Editor
E&T Magazine
“As journalists, contacts and access are among our most sought-after commodities. After all, we’ve all experienced the difficulties and frustrations of getting to speak to the right person with the right expertise to put ‘meat on the bones’ of our stories.
By bringing together high-profile speakers in one place on one day, The First Friday Club constitutes an incredibly valuable resource for busy editors. That it does so in a relaxed and convivial context is a huge bonus, meaning as it does that speakers are happy to give you time to expand upon points or go into greater detail. Furthermore, contacts made at The First Friday Club remain contacts far beyond the day itself, meaning you’re not just getting a day’s worth of content, but potentially years of insight and knowledge.
I have been attending the First Friday Club for nearly 15 years now and in that time have acquired dozens of contacts from it upon whom I still call today”.
Paul Fanning, Editorial Director (Industrial)
Mark Allen Group
“I have always found the First Friday Club a very informative and useful event. The structure of the presentations is always very efficient and there is always plenty of opportunity for networking with the various presenters in the afternoon. For me, the key benefit I have always thought the FFC brought to the press is the multiple presenter format. In this day and age, when everyone is very busy and time is precious, it is so advantageous to be able to attend one event and glean as much information as you would from attending several individual events, thus saving a lot of time. With the FFC you are effectively getting 3/4 press conferences in one – it’s a format that enables us to do our job much more efficiently.”
Joe Bush, Editor

“I have been attending the First Friday Club for many years now and I find it it is the best place to network with top people in the industry, gather multiple news stories and save me time when it comes to broadening my contacts.”
